Don't be worried if you see me at 5:30 am running through the Brickell Ave with a ball in the head. No, I did't freak out. I'm just doing my workout!

A year ago, I began to practice crossfit. I decided to start, when I moved to Miami. After all, where making friends when you're not in high school, in College, still don't have kids or dogs? The gym seemed like a great option!

But I wanted something different, something that matched with the whole process of change that I was living, so I decided to try Crossfit! And, this whole new universe to me, today, it's part of my lifestyle. I'm far from being the perfect crossfitter, but I always try to be better every day and overcome my weaknesses.

Here in Miami, there are multiple places to do it. Mine is the CROSSFIT VIDA BRICKELL, which is part of the IAMCROSSFIT. Super serious company, its coaches have a huge knowledge about the practice. They know how to conduct the wod, and serve in a personalized way the needs of each crossfitter. Proof of this seriousness, is to join there, all people need to do a course of a week, where you learn about the fundamentals of crossfit, the technique of the main movements and on nutrition. Remember my post about the Paleo Diet? Well, one thing led to another. And, still has Damage Control Yoga (in another post I’ll talk about it). And, only then, you're ready to start!

It's a lifestyle that starts from the inside out. It takes an inner transformation, which causes you to leave behind old habits, not only food, but sleep, for example. It's not just wake up and be crossfitter. Your awareness of body and mind, also changes. And, there is a desire to overcome, that no sport managed to awaken in me. Today I can say I'm a Crossfitter (still crawling, but I am).

I went out of my comfort zone and it was worth it! So, what about you? What are you waiting for to start a new activity? Rediscover yourself! Reinvent yourself! Live and be happy!

Below, some Crossfit infos!

This fitness regimen was developed by Greg Glassman (CrossFit's Founder and CEO) over several decades. Glassman was the first person in history to define fitness in a meaningful, measurable way: increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains. He then created a program specifically designed to improve fitness and health.

CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity. All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, and these movements reflect the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more. These are the core movements of life. They move the largest loads the longest distances, so they are ideal for maximizing the amount of work done in the shortest time. Intensity is essential for results and is measurable as work divided by time—or power. The more work you do in less time, or the higher the power output, the more intense the effort. By employing a constantly varied approach to training, functional movements and intensity lead to dramatic gains in fitness.

Our bodies are meant to adapt to physical stressors. Once adapted, physical changes decrease or stop all together. In essence routine is the enemy. CrossFits programming to to keep the body guessing and always adapting. The "constantly varied" protocol allows the crossfitters to tackle the movements they excel at but also test the ones that they find difficult.

High Intensity as defined by CrossFit is how fast you get real work done. The more work you can do in less time increases power. The more power you can do the harder it is and also yields the best results.

In short, functional movements are those that mimic common activity of daily living or movements that aren't so common like running from a rabid dog, scaling a wall from a fire or lifting a heavy rock off a trapped friend. These compound movements also yield the best results for strength, positive hormone release and overall body composition.

The CrossFit program is driven by data. Using whiteboards as scoreboards, keeping accurate scores and records, running a clock, and precisely defining the rules and standards for performance, we not only motivate unprecedented output but derive both relative and absolute metrics at every workout. This data has important value well beyond motivation.

Overall, the aim of CrossFit is to forge a broad, general and inclusive fitness supported by measurable, observable and repeatable results. The program prepares trainees for any physical contingency—not only for the unknown but for the unknowable, too. Our specialty is not specializing.

While CrossFit challenges the world’s fittest, the program is designed for universal scalability, making it the perfect application for any committed individual, regardless of experience. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change the program. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree, not kind.

I AM CrossFit is a team of dedicated trainers that have come together to deliver the CrossFit program exactly as it is intended. The stimulus provided are by design, constantly varied, functional movements, performed at a high intensity. Our specialty is not specializing and our goal is constant progress. The atmosphere is welcoming, and is one of support and camaraderie to anyone seeking elite physical fitness.
